The Fulfillment of All Desire – A Guided Journey into Holiness
Based on the Book by Ralph Martin
With Reflections, Prayers, and Meditations
————————————————————
CHAPTER 1 – ST. TERESA OF ÁVILA AND THE FIRST MANSIONS
————————————————————
The soul is described as a magnificent crystal castle with God dwelling in the innermost center. Entry begins with prayer. Most souls never enter the interior.
First Mansions: Awakening of the soul, but danger of distractions, temptations, and pride. Souls are still vulnerable.
Prayer is the door. Venomous creatures (attachments, sin) remain near.
REFLECTION:
“Even though the soul is not in a state of grace, if it perseveres in prayer, God will draw it inward.”
PRAYER:
Jesus, draw me into the castle. Purify me from all distraction. Let me begin anew.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 2 – THE PURGATIVE WAY BEGINS
————————————————————
The soul begins purification from sin and detachment from the world. Virtues must be cultivated. Sufferings are allowed to refine the soul.
Key Virtues: Humility, simplicity, detachment, patience.
REFLECTION:
Humility is queen of virtues. Trials test and purify love.
PRAYER:
Lord, purify my heart. Let me accept correction and darkness with trust.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 3 – FEAR AND LOVE IN CONVERSION
————————————————————
Fear of God often begins the journey. Servile fear (of punishment) grows into filial fear (fear of offending Love).
St. Catherine: “The soul loves itself for its own sake… but begins to love God for His own sake.”
PRAYER:
Jesus, perfect my love. Let my fear become reverence. Let me love without reward.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 4 – THE OBSTACLE OF PRIDE
————————————————————
Pride hides even in virtue. Humility is truth.
False humility = subtle pride. Real humility leads to gratitude and mercy.
St. John of the Cross: “The soul that walks in love neither tires others nor grows tired.”
REFLECTION BY BROTHER:
We cannot measure humility or holiness. True humility is focusing on our vices and depending totally on God’s grace.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 5 – THE DISCIPLINE OF PRAYER
————————————————————
Prayer must be daily, faithful, disciplined. It is not about feeling but fidelity.
Obstacles: dryness, distraction, spiritual laziness.
Saints’ Wisdom:
– “Prayer is an intimate sharing between friends.” (St. Teresa)
– “If you pray and love, that is enough.” (St. John Vianney)
PRAYER:
Teach me to show up, even in silence. Let prayer become my breath.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 6 – PERSEVERANCE IN DRYNESS AND TRIALS
————————————————————
Dryness is permitted to purify motives and deepen love. Suffering becomes participation in the Cross.
REFLECTION:
Even in darkness, the soul trusts. Jesus suffered abandonment—so will we.
PRAYER:
When I feel nothing, still let me pray. Let silence be my love song.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 7 – GROWTH IN VIRTUE AND CHARITY
————————————————————
After trial comes fruit: charity, patience, meekness, kindness.
Love becomes the soul’s nature. The soul no longer strains to love—it loves because God lives in it.
PRAYER:
Jesus, love through me. Make my soul gentle, hidden, and free.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 8 – THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
————————————————————
The soul begins to live in the Illuminative Way. The Holy Spirit illumines, heals, and inflames the soul.
Fruits of the Spirit appear: joy, peace, patience, love.
Mary, Spouse of the Spirit, leads the soul gently.
PRAYER:
Come, Holy Spirit. Possess my thoughts, desires, memory, and will.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 9 – LIVING IN THE SPIRIT: DISCERNMENT & DAILY FIDELITY
————————————————————
The soul lives with balance and discernment. True union is tested in ordinary faithfulness and humility.
Daily fidelity becomes liturgy. Small tasks sanctify.
PRAYER:
Let me cling to nothing. Let me love obscurity. Let me radiate joy quietly.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 10 – THE FINAL PURIFICATIONS
————————————————————
The Dark Night of the Spirit: complete purification.
No consolation, only pure faith. No visible presence, only the Cross. The soul is crucified with Christ.
REFLECTION:
“Let me suffer for You, Jesus. Let me remain when You are hidden.”
PRAYER:
I am Yours. Take away everything but Yourself.
————————————————————
CHAPTER 11 – LIVING IN PERFECT UNION: A HIDDEN FIRE
————————————————————
The soul now prays always, even in silence and action.
Every breath is a prayer. The soul becomes Eucharist—broken, offered, consumed.
Virtues flow effortlessly. The soul desires to remain unknown, to radiate only God.
REFLECTION:
The soul becomes a living flame of love.
PRAYER:
Consume me, Lord. Let only You remain. I am Yours.
————————————————————
BROTHER’S REFLECTION ON UNION:
————————————————————
– The soul is lost in God
– Prayer becomes pleasure
– Virtues increase effortlessly
– The soul prays for crosses
– Peace and joy radiate
– God’s Will alone suffices
– Ecstasy is constant, hidden
– Self is forgotten
– The world is despised
– Only Love remains
“This is the Unitive Way. The soul prays even in sleep.”
Amen.
