Reflection 3: God Deserves to Be Loved Over Everything
In this fleeting life, St. Alphonsus Liguori teaches us that all things pass—health, honors, riches, pleasures. Only one reality remains: God and the soul.
Why, then, do we love what will pass and forget the One who is eternal?
God made you, redeemed you, sustains you in every breath. Every heartbeat is a gift of His mercy. He does not force your love, but He longs for it—eternally.
To love anything more than God is disorder. To love God above all is salvation.
Jesus Christ on the Cross is the eternal cry: “I love you this much.” He gave up Heaven, comfort, blood, even His breath—just to win your heart.
St. Alphonsus says: “The whole law is founded on love: ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart.’”
This is not a mere commandment—it is an invitation to happiness.
God deserves your first thought in the morning.
He deserves your obedience in secret.
He deserves your forgiveness toward others.
He deserves your whole heart—because He gave you His.
Let your soul repeat each day:
“My God, I love You above all things—more than myself, more than life, more than all creation.”
This is the beginning of Heaven.
